A picture of the African Mercy, which for some reason, at the moment, my heart calls home.
My season on-board the African Mercy was a very rich and growing experience and I was very impacted by the work and free surgery that serves the poorest of the poor. I have never experienced such widespread poverty before.
It was wonderful to see people’s lives totally transformed by the medical attention, operations and recovery. It was also so good to see the restoration of people’s dignity and their acceptance back into their communities and the look in someone's eyes changing from deep despair to joy and hope.
https://vimeo.com/156154663?from=outro-embed there are two little girls in this video that I got close to and was very impacted by their stories.
I sketched them both (these are in my blog on an earlier date .)
I have found over the past months that my heart is still back on the ship and that I don’t feel my time on the ship is over. After much thought and prayer, I have decided that I would really love to re-join Mercy Ships at the beginning of June for a period of 1 to 2 years. This means I will need to resign from my job, my managers have kindly released me from my 3 months notice period that is required of me.
As you are probably aware, all crew members are volunteers on the ship and have to raise all their own funds for crew fees, so that that the operations and medical care can be given free of charge. I would like to ask if you would consider supporting me financially and/or prayerfully once again.
I will need to raise ± £18000 if I were to do the full two years.
If you feel that you are able to either provide a one-off donation or support me monthly for a certain amount of time, I would be most grateful and delighted. Prayer support and encouragement are also most welcome.
I will need to give my final confirmation to Mercy Ships and resign from my job by the end of April, so if you could donate or pledge by then it would be most helpful.
The following are different ways of giving:
1. My Just Giving Site: https://www.justgiving.com/MercyShips-Dayle-McCulloch (either cut and paste this link into Internet Explorer, or right click on it and click open hyperlink)
2. A deposit into my Mercy Ships bank account which you can get by mailing me.
3. A standing order for a monthly donation, please contact Mercyships UK on 01438347483 and they will happily take your details and help set it up for you.
4. A personal cheque or cash.
4. A personal cheque or cash.
Please do indicate if you are a Tax Payer and can Gift Aid – that would add 25% on top of your donation and be really helpful.
Please do look through my earlier blogs that I kept while on the ship, it is quite long but there are also lots of pictures to give you a feel for my past six months.
PS: Also, please could you forward this to any friends or colleagues who you think may be interested to support me and the Mercy Ships or you think may like to come aboard as crew, the jobs are all posted on the MercyShips web site and they are not all medical.
This is a link to Mercy Ships website: http://www.mercyships.org where you can find lots of other information, including how, if you were interested in joining me http://apply.mercyships.org/ , or you know anyone else who may be.
